Christa Abbott, M.Ed.
The founder, Christa Abbott, received her B.A. in Biology and Psychology and her Masters at the University of Virginia in Reading Education, a program nationally known for its excellence. Ms. Abbott has over eight years of experience with individual and group instruction in test preparation, academic skills development and course content tutoring.
Abbott Learning Center
The Abbott Learning Center, certified with the National Tutoring Association, offers educational solutions for all types of learners. A range of services are available, from basic course content tutoring to academic skill remediation to test preparation. The Center's tutors are experts in their field and experienced with learning styles and differences and have worked with students of varying abilities, including students with learning disability, ADD/ADHD and autistic spectrum diagnoses. The Center's approach is based upon building a relationship with students and their families. The Center collaborates with parents to facilitate a unified approach to addressing students' needs. Weekly electronic session reports build the bridge of communication between the tutors, the student's family and school.
Test Preparation
As competition at top colleges and private schools have increased, it has become more important than ever to prepare for the SAT and SSAT. The Center has years of experience helping students get the scores they need to reach their goals. Their test preparation specialists have experience working with students with both regular and modified testing accommodations. The keys to success include test-taking strategies individualized for each student and content instruction using research-based methods that make the most of each student's preparation time.
Academic Support
The Abbott Learning Center has developed specific programs for helping children with learning disabilities prepare for the SAT's. The Center remains flexible in its offerings, and responsive to meeting the needs of varied populations in the academic setting. The Abbott Learning Center has established programs in which the learning specialist works with students on an individual basis to build the academic skills needed to succeed. The learning specialist applies the understanding of the learning process to pinpoint where the student most needs support and guidance. For each student, learning strategies are developed that maximize the student's strengths. By meshing classroom expectations with the learning style of each student, the specialist is able to guide students toward developing systems and strategies that work for them.
The Abbott Learning Center's Philosophy is that tutoring should help students succeed in the present while preparing them for the challenges of that they may face in the future. By working with current school assignments, students have the motivation and context for academic success. The Center's specialists have varied academic backgrounds and are qualified to tutor in a variety of subjects from chemistry to math to writing.
