Transtion To College Workshops

KEY OBJECTIVE: Mastering the Transition to College………………
Information Every Student and Parent Should Know

This Three-Session Workshop offers incoming college freshmen of all backgrounds and learning styles proven strategies, practical skills and critical information to successfully navigate the leap from high school to college.

Participants engage in a guided planning process empowering them to be and feel more prepared to achieve a strong and meaningful start to college – socially, academically and personally.

Services include:

    Key discussion topics include:
  • Managing the expectations, demands and stress of college life (including academic workload, relationships with friends/family and financial pressures)
  • Building strong social, professional and community connections from day one
  • Reducing risks and staying safer around alcohol and drugs
  • Dealing effectively and smartly with common conflicts and challenges
  • Using resources (career guidance, counseling, academic support, etc.) to your best advantage

This workshop includes 3 evening sessions that will each run 1 ˝ hours:

  • Two sessions for students only, and
  • One parent/student joint session.

Workshop Facilitator, Christopher Fortunato, JD, LCSW, who will be leading this workshop, is currently the Dean of Students at Providence College and an adolescent therapist practicing in the Metrowest area. Mr. Fortunato regularly provides expert consultation and training to students, families, public school systems and colleges on topics including student development, alcohol and drug abuse prevention/intervention, career and graduate school advising, student involvement and more.
