Anxiety affects many children and adolescents of varying ages, genders, and backgrounds. While anxiety serves a useful purpose in out lives, it can be detrimental when it becomes overwhelming or prevents us from engaging in out day-to-day tasks.
Group therapy is an effective way to teach children and adolescents how to manage their anxiety, while connecting them with others who are experiencing the same difficulties. Participating in group therapy combats common thoughts such as "I am the only one who feels this way" or "No now understands."
This group aims to provide participants with skills to improve how they manage their anxiety. Group members will learn how to identify when they are becoming anxious, and learn concrete skills to reduce anxiety in the moment.
Utilizing a cognitive behavioral structure, group members will learn about the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Members will be able to identity how this connection impacts their anxiety, and how to implement the skills learned at home, school, and the community. Groups will be run in 8-week intervals. Participants are divided into groups based on age and gender.
